The Data Center Intelligence Group (DCIG), a leading technology analyst firm, recently released its 2026-27 DCIG TOP 5 Cyber Resilient PBBAs report. Huawei's OceanProtect data protection products were recognized in the report for their excellent cyber resilience, standout backup and recovery performance, industry-leading data reduction capabilities, and enterprise-grade reliability.
The report notes that, according to multiple surveys, over 80% of enterprises and organizations experienced ransomware attacks in the past year, with attack frequency rising and attack methods continuously evolving. Ransomware has become a pervasive threat to global digital operations, redefining the criteria for selecting and evaluating purpose-built backup appliances (PBBAs).
In this report, DCIG identified "backup system resilience against attacks" and "fault recovery efficiency" as core evaluation criteria, and evaluated more than 250 features and capabilities to conduct a detailed assessment of 35 mainstream backup appliances worldwide. Compared with previous evaluation systems, this one added two new evaluation criteria—all-flash storage hardware deployment and AI threat analysis—to better align with the current needs of enterprises for ransomware protection and large-capacity backup services.
The evaluation results show that:
In the All-Flash Edition category, Huawei OceanProtect X9000 Backup Appliance ranked No. 1 among the top 5 PBBAs for its excellent recovery performance.
In the 3PB+ Logical Global Edition category, Huawei OceanProtect X6000 Backup Appliance ranked No. 1 among the top 5 PBBAs for its outstanding cost-effectiveness.
Huawei's OceanProtect data protection products are committed to innovation. With an integrated hardware and software design, they have five core capabilities:
Automatic isolation policies to cut off lateral ransomware movement: With the Air Gap physical isolation technology, an independent isolation zone is used to control service-level agreement (SLA) replication policies. Network links are temporarily activated only during data replication, minimizing the risk of backup copies being exposed to ransomware attacks. In addition, the secure snapshot and write once read many (WORM) anti-tampering technologies are used to collaboratively protect backup data from tampering, encryption, and deletion through a multi-layer mechanism.
Network-storage collaboration for multi-layer defense and high-precision ransomware threat identification: An integrated ransomware protection system is built to enable storage-network collaboration. This system integrates ransomware signature identification and I/O behavior anomaly detection to achieve a ransomware identification accuracy of up to 99.99%. Huawei OceanProtect data protection products can work with the OceanCyber Data Security Appliance to configure all-domain security policies in a unified manner, monitor full backup jobs in real time, scan backup data sets of multiple devices, and accurately capture ransomware and abnormal behaviors.
All-flash high-performance architecture for minute-level service recovery: All products in the series are equipped with an optimized all-flash storage hardware architecture and support scale-out of 16-node clusters to form a unified logical resource pool, greatly improving parallel read and write. The system backup throughput can reach 200 TB/hour, and the recovery bandwidth can reach 100 TB/hour.
High data reduction to slash storage TCO: Four processing procedures—including data preprocessing, multi-layer inline variable-length deduplication, in-depth feature compression, and byte-level space reduction—achieve a maximum data reduction ratio of up to 90:1. The data compression efficiency is significantly higher than that of similar products in the industry.
Active-active HA architecture for always-on services: OceanProtect uses the active-active HA design for controllers, allowing all controllers to carry read and write loads at the same time. In the event of a single controller failure or online device maintenance, services remain uninterrupted, ensuring 24/7 data protection.
After five years of sustained efforts, Huawei's OceanProtect data protection products have earned broad recognition from global industry organizations and customers. Looking ahead, Huawei will continue to enhance two core capabilities—backup efficiency and data resilience—to build resilient, efficient, and highly reliable data infrastructure for industries worldwide.
