Omantel Explores Collaboration with GalaxySpace on Next-Generation Satellite Connectivity Opportunities
Muscat, 24 August 2026: Omantel, the Sultanate of Oman's leading integrated telecommunications and technology solutions provider and digital enabler, has joined forces with GalaxySpace, a commercial Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite technology company, to explore opportunities in next-generation satellite connectivity across the Sultanate.
The collaboration provides a framework for both parties to explore potential areas of cooperation and jointly assess future opportunities. It is intended to evaluate how satellite technologies, including LEO-based connectivity solutions, could complement Omantel’s existing connectivity portfolio and support future use cases across consumer, enterprise, and government segments.
Under the collaboration, Omantel and GalaxySpace will explore Proof of Concept activities, technical evaluations, and potential service scenarios to determine the feasibility, performance, and commercial relevance of future satellite-enabled services in Oman. These activities are expected to support evidence-based assessment before any future deployment, investment, or commercial decision is considered.
Through this exploratory collaboration, Omantel seeks to deepen its understanding of emerging technologies and evaluate their potential role in advancing Oman’s digital transformation and future connectivity landscape. It also aligns with Oman Vision 2040, encouraging technology exploration, international cooperation, knowledge exchange, and the development of capabilities that may support future digital innovation.
Potential areas of evaluation may include resilient broadband connectivity, service continuity in challenging or remote locations, enterprise and industry applications, maritime and logistics use cases, IoT-enabled solutions, and opportunities to strengthen national digital infrastructure through complementary satellite and terrestrial technologies.
As part of the collaboration framework, both parties will consider opportunities for knowledge transfer, technical capability development, and joint learning. Any future service introduction, investment structure, or operational model would remain subject to the outcomes of technical and commercial assessments, regulatory requirements, internal approvals, and broader strategic alignment.
Eng. Aladdin Baitfadhil, CEO of Omantel, said, "As connectivity technologies continue to evolve, satellite capabilities are becoming an increasingly important complement to terrestrial networks in enabling the next phase of digital transformation. Our collaboration with GalaxySpace reflects Omantel's commitment to exploring emerging technologies that can strengthen the resilience, reach, and future readiness of Oman’s connectivity ecosystem. Through technical collaboration, knowledge exchange, and rigorous evaluation, we aim to deepen our understanding of these capabilities and their potential role in advancing Oman Vision 2040, while ensuring that any future opportunities are assessed in alignment with national strategic priorities, market needs, and the evolving regulatory landscape."
Peter Huang Heping, GM International Business Development at GalaxySpace, commented, "This collaboration provides an opportunity for GalaxySpace and Omantel to jointly assess how LEO broadband and direct-to-cell technologies may help build local satellite capabilities in Oman, while exploring broader regional opportunities for advanced satellite connectivity."
Through this collaboration, Omantel and GalaxySpace will work together to define potential Proof of Concept activities and technical evaluation areas. The results of these assessments will help inform any future decisions regarding potential services, commercial models, or wider collaboration opportunities.
