Huawei named Sole Leader in GlobalData 2026 Microwave Backhaul: Competitive Landscape Assessment

[Chengdu, China, August 7, 2026] Huawei was named a Leader for its technical strengths and market performance in the latest 'Microwave Backhaul: Competitive Landscape Assessment' report released by GlobalData—a globally renowned industry data analytics and consulting firm. As the sole microwave backhaul vendor to secure the 'Leader' ranking, Huawei continues to lead the global microwave industry.

The report points to microwave as an efficient mainstream alternative to fiber for providing backhaul for base stations in geographically limited or cost-constrained areas. It rates the global mainstream microwave vendors by four criteria: E-band, short-haul, long-haul, and portfolio breadth. In its recognition of Huawei as the sole leader, the report highlights the vendor's technical strengths, product competitiveness, and industry contributions in microwave backhaul.

E-band: Huawei's full-outdoor and split E-band products offer industry-leading output power, and the split E-band products deliver exceptional capacity. The report highlights that Huawei's E-band full-duplex solution supports simultaneous reception and transmission over the same channel, offering an effective way to double backhaul throughput.

Short-haul microwave: Huawei's indoor unit (IDU) provides unrivalled capacity, especially when viewed at the per-hardware level. This ensures solution cost-effectiveness with maximum capacity using the smallest hardware. The indoor footprint is minimized, which reduces deployment costs.

Long-haul microwave: Huawei's leading long-haul solution features industry-leading switching capacity and supports significantly more single-device RF channels than the industry average. The simple high-capacity architecture enables operators to future-proof their surging traffic needs without increasing costs.

Antenna innovation: The report further highlights Huawei's leading antenna innovations, including quad-band antennas that reduce antenna quantities and installation costs, and 90 cm large-diameter E-band antennas that work with intelligent beam tracking (IBT) to significantly boost link stability and extend transmission distances. Huawei's unique spherical MB² antennas are equipped with directionally adjustable feeders, which adds more flexibility to live-world deployments.

The E-band full-duplex technology discussed in the report delivers up to 50 Gbps fiber-like ultra-large capacity, and it has been put into commercial use. The MB² antenna allows a single antenna to be shared in up to 10 directions, greatly reducing site complexity, while enabling co-channel interference cancellation (CCIC) to improve spectrum reuse by four times. The antenna is also entering commercial use.
